Post it Note Mum Adventures – January 2018

January is always a quiet month for us, recovering from a hectic Christmas with too much eating and drinking.  January meant getting back into a normal routine.  Back to the school run and all the kids after school clubs starting up again.  Good thing about January ending is it means we are over half way through Winter and one step closer to Spring! Happy days! 🙂 This is what we got up to in January.

January Adventures

Its a kids life

We had an inset day set in January so off we went to Suffolk to visit Nanny and make the most of the kids being off school.  We were very lucky and had a sunny winters day so spent some time playing at the park before spending the afternoon at the cinema seeing Paddington Bear 2.  Would highly recommend the film, very funny!

On a very wet and miserable Saturday afternoon we got inside and away from the rain at Partyman World of Play in Braintree.  The kids had a great time running around exploring the soft play area while I enjoyed a coffee and a book!  Read what we thought of Partyman World of Play here.

House Extension

There have been lots of changes inside our house this month.  New walls have gone up, ensuite has been fitted and the extension has been plastered ready for painting! The house has been full of activity and tradespeople.  I have lost count of how many teas and coffees I have made!

It was great seeing the ensuite come together.  I was so excited to see what the tiles we had chosen looked like.  Luckily I am really thrilled with the outcome!  Now to find some accessories to add those finishing touches.

Our kitchen arrived at the end of the month in a million boxes all piled up high and ready to be fitted.  Cant wait to see it coming together and the kitchen finally taking shape.  I have managed without one but cooking on an electric camping hob is starting to loose its novelty!  We have been able to cook quite normally though with our little make shift kitchen including my Broccoli and Stilton Soup.

Post it Note Mum Adventures – December 2017

Happy New Year!  2018 already, cant believe how fast 2017 went (I’m sure it gets quicker each year).  We had a busy end to the year getting ready for the man in the big red suit to arrive.  We also had lots of toing and froing from our house.  This is what we got up to in December.

December Adventures

Birthday Celebrations

December kicked off with a great weekend away in Cromer, Norfolk celebrating my father in laws 60th birthday.  We stayed in a beautiful house and had a great time enjoying walks into Cromer and laughing lots while playing our parts in a murder mystery game.

While in Cromer you have to try the local crab from J Lee Crab Stall its amazing and for the best Fish and Chips head over to Mary Janes, you wont be disappointed!

Christmas Fun

December is always a busy time for the kids at school with lots of festive activities going on.  There were visits from Santa on the school roof, Christmas jumper days and Christmas productions to name just a few.  We were also lucky to get a day of snow which we spent with friends and the kids enjoyed playing outside for hours.  Every December we get a visit from our elf Poppy who plays hide and seek with Zach and Amelia every morning.

Post it Note Mum December Adventures, what we got up to in December

Its a Christmas tradition in our house to go and watch the Pantomime at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend.  Again this year didn’t disappoint with a very funny performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Zach was in stiches at the silly jokes Bobby Davro made.  We have already booked our tickets for the December 2018 Panto (oh no you haven’t 🙂 ).

Christmas with the family

As we don’t currently have a kitchen we were unable to host Christmas dinner this year (pretty good excuse I thought).  We got to spend two lovely days with all the family eating, drinking and exchanging presents.  We also had fun playing lots of games, some got a bit too competitive!  Check out my post for games to play next year Easy but fun Christmas games to play with all the family.

Christmas for me is having everyone together all squeezed round the table enjoying roast turkey with all the trimmings followed by too many desserts and lots of cheese and biscuits.  You cant beat it!  Apart from maybe the cold meat and pickles dinner on Boxing Day 🙂

House Extension

Not the best time of year to have no heating but that’s what we faced in December when a whole new heating system had to be fitted.  Luckily for us we had somewhere to move into for a couple of weeks so we didn’t have to sit in our coats and woolly hats.  We moved back in just before Christmas day and managed to make the best of only having the lounge as our living space.  It is now also our kitchen and dining room.  We even fitted in a small Christmas tree as we couldn’t go without one.

Happy New Year!

We had a lovely time seeing in the New Year with friends.  Followed by a nice New Years Day walk and stop off at the pub.  Its always nice to reflect on the year that has just passed, and listen to everyone’s plans and resolutions for the year ahead.  I don’t often set myself a New Years resolution as I don’t like the thought of not achieving it (which often happens).  Unlike Amelia who’s resolution is to be able to do a handstand by the end of the year!  Instead I have some goals in mind which I will work towards throughout the year. I enjoyed starting my blog last year and will work on growing and improving it this year.  I still have so much to learn.  There are lots of things that we need to achieve with the house this year and will be great when they are done and we can enjoy it.

Hope you had a great Christmas and best wishes for 2018!  Thanks for taking the time to read my post.  Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Post it Note Mum Adventures – November 2017

November seems to have been and gone in a flash (and a few bangs).  Fireworks always start our November and it finishes with the Christmas lights decorating our streets.  Its been a busy time for us with lots of decisions being made on our house extension.  This is what we got up to in November.

November Adventures

Fireworks, Poppies and Painting

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

Guy Fawkes night is always lots of fun.  I still love watching a good fireworks display.   Its become a tradition to meet up with friends and enjoy the fireworks together.

I feel its important to make sure the children are aware of what Remembrance Sunday is all about.  We watched our local Remembrance parade in town and saw all the local scout groups marching through the high street.

Amelia loves a trip to our local clay and painting centre.  The Clay Cottage is a great place for children to choose an item to paint.  Zach and Amelia painted gifts for their Grandad’s birthday but they have lots of Christmas decorations and gifts to paint.

Gin and tea O’clock

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

We celebrated a friends birthday in a great small bar trying some lovely gins.  Vino Vero in Leigh on Sea is perfect for a get together with friends.  We got to try three great gins all served with a different tonic and garnish.  They run a number of different events and sell a large selections of wines, beers and spirits.  Would highly recommend trying it out.

You can’t beat a coffee morning get together with friends, enjoying tea, cake and a chat.  Its even better when its to raise money for charity.  My friend is running the London Marathon next year to help raise money for a great charity, The Terrance Higgins Trust.  Read her story and the great work the charity does here.

Its starting to look a lot like Christmas…

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

The end of November means Christmas is getting ever closer and decorations and lights start to appear.  We went to two of our local Christmas light switch ons.  Its a great way to kick off the Christmas season and start to feel festive.  I even had my first mince pie and mulled wine.  Its so nice to see the high street lit up with lights.

House Extension

The House extension has made a lot of visual progress this month.  The new windows have gone in and the house has been rendered.  The scaffolding has finally been taken down so we no longer have an obstacle course to get into our front door!  It so nice to see it looking more like a house.

Work has started on our bathroom with tiles being laid but this meant loosing half of our existing bathroom.  All fun and games as they say!

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

Going to be loosing our kitchen in December so making preparations for that.  This means a makeshift kitchen in the living room!  Thank goodness for microwaves and slow cookers.

Post it Note Mum Adventures – October 2017

As we say goodbye to October we are definitely getting into winter territory.  The summer clothes have been packed away and you realise the kids have no warm clothes that fit them anymore.  Having to put the heating on is becoming a regular occurrence and of course we say goodbye to British Summer time.  This is what we got up to in October.

October Adventures

Holiday to Dubai

Having a holiday in October isn’t something we normally do.  This year we were lucky enough to have a trip to Dubai.  It was an amazing holiday where lots of great memories were made.  We stayed at The Address Marina Hotel which had lovely views over the marina.  It was a busy 5 days as we had a lot that we wanted to see and do.

Post it Note Mum October Adventures, what we got up to in October, days out

We experienced a Friday Brunch which is a popular activity in Dubai.  Enjoying huge amounts of delicious foods while listening to a live band.  The children also had a great time making friends in the kids area.  We definitely left a few pounds heavier that day!

At the other end of the scale we enjoyed a day in Old Dubai visiting the Souks and eating in more traditional restaurants.  We learnt about the history of Dubai at the Dubai Museum and had a ride across the creek in a traditional Abra boat.

Post it Note Mum October Adventures, what we got up to in October, days out

There is just so much to see and do in Dubai and a lot of it is on a grand scale including the worlds tallest building and the worlds largest shopping mall.  Posts about our trip will be uploaded shortly.

Spooky Halloween days out

We had some fun days out over the October half term and because of Halloween they often had a spooky theme.  We visited Wat Tyler Country Park and joined in their Halloween activities, some of which ended up being a bit too scary for my two!  Zach and Amelia also enjoy the play area here and visiting the RSPB discovery centre.  They each got to make and bring home a bird feeder.

We had a great day out at Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park during their Wizards and Witches week.  The kids enjoyed joining in with all the spooky Halloween activities and they got to pick and take home a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.  To read what we got up to check out my post Our Spooky day out at Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park.

The kids final day of the half term was spent at The Fun Factory Rochford for some Ice skating, climbing and playing with friends.  Zach is a big fan of the CBBC show Ice Stars so was keen to try out skating, however I think he was more like Bambi on Ice 🙂  Kids had lots of fun though.

House Extension

We now have a roof on our side extension and the new bathroom and Zach’s new bedroom are taking shape.  We have been choosing bathroom suites and tiles this week.  So many decisions to make and so many options to choose from.  Excited to see our new windows being fitted next week (funny what excites you when you get older 🙂 )

Post it Note Mum Adventures – September 2017

Can’t believe September is already over.  This month meant getting back into the school routine and starting back at all the after school activities.  Also getting over the holiday blues!  All that being said we have had a busy fun September.  This is what we got up to.

September Adventures

London life

We don’t live too far from London and its only a 45 minute train journey however its always a nice treat to head up to London for a day out.  Its been one of those months where everything came at once and I was out in London a few times.

Gin and cake on a bus

First trip was with friends aboard a Routemaster bus for afternoon tea with B Bakery.  We enjoyed a bus tour around London while eating a selection of delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones.  We opted for the Gin Lovers Tour which included three tasty gin cocktails by Hayman’s Gin.  Everyone had a great time, would definitely recommend it!

Riding the wire

The next day I was back into London, this time for a girly day with my mum, sister, Amelia and a family friend.  My sister had bought me a ticket for Zip World London for my birthday.  It was the biggest, fastest, city zip wire in the world.  After climbing what felt like a huge amount of stairs it was a bit scary standing at the top waiting our turn to ride the wire.  It was great fun though!  We had a race to the other side, which I lost! 🙁 Unfortunately it has just ended for 2017 but definitely worth waiting to see if it returns or checking out their other locations.

We finished the day with dinner in Leicester Square at Cork & Bottle.  It had some good reviews on TripAdvisor and it didn’t disappoint.  The restaurant is quite quirky being located in a basement at the bottom of a set of spiral stairs.  We were seated in our own private cove which was once an old underground prison cell.  The menu was quite varied and the food was delicious.

Puttin’ on the Ritz

Next trip to London was for afternoon tea at The Ritz to celebrate my Nan’s 80th Birthday.  It was amazing sitting in this beautiful, traditional hotel being served tea in an ornate silver teapot.  We all had a lovely afternoon eating and drinking while listening to the piano.

Post it Note Mum Adventures, September 2017, what we got up to in September

For a completely different experience in London we finished the day with cocktails at the top of Sushi Samba.  The view while travelling up the glass lift is pretty amazing, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you are not keen on heights!  We enjoyed cocktails outside while keeping warm under a blanket and next to the fire.  It was great to share this with my Nan.

Brunch time

Final trip to London was to enjoy Saturday brunch at the South Place Chop House.  This bottomless brunch meant that our prosecco glasses were continuously being topped up!  The food was very tasty and I would definitely recommend the smoked salmon bagel and the chocolate covered waffles!

Days Out

The kids had some fun days out with friends visiting South Weald Country Park and Wat Tyler Country Park.  Both great spaces to run around, fly kites and play on the park equipment.  We also got to relive our youth by getting on some skates and visiting RollaCity!  Brought back memories of skating around when I was younger.  For more ideas on places to visit in Essex please check out my other post – 25 things to do in Essex with kids.

House Extension

Another months progress has been made.  Scaffolding now covers the house so its a bit of an obstacle course to get to the front door.  The old roof tiles are being replaced by new grey ones and insulation is being fitted to the house.  The roof trusses have been delivered and the roof on the extension is taking shape.
