Post it Note Mum Adventures – November 2017

November seems to have been and gone in a flash (and a few bangs).  Fireworks always start our November and it finishes with the Christmas lights decorating our streets.  Its been a busy time for us with lots of decisions being made on our house extension.  This is what we got up to in November.

November Adventures

Fireworks, Poppies and Painting

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

Guy Fawkes night is always lots of fun.  I still love watching a good fireworks display.   Its become a tradition to meet up with friends and enjoy the fireworks together.

I feel its important to make sure the children are aware of what Remembrance Sunday is all about.  We watched our local Remembrance parade in town and saw all the local scout groups marching through the high street.

Amelia loves a trip to our local clay and painting centre.  The Clay Cottage is a great place for children to choose an item to paint.  Zach and Amelia painted gifts for their Grandad’s birthday but they have lots of Christmas decorations and gifts to paint.

Gin and tea O’clock

Post it Note Mum November Adventures, what we got up to in November, things to do, house extension and more

We celebrated a friends birthday in a great small bar trying some lovely gins.  Vino Vero in Leigh on Sea is perfect for a get together with friends.  We got to try three great gins all served with a different tonic and garnish.  They run a number of different events and sell a large selections of wines, beers and spirits.  Would highly recommend trying it out.

You can’t beat a coffee morning get together with friends, enjoying tea, cake and a chat.  Its even better when its to raise money for charity.  My friend is running the London Marathon next year to help raise money for a great charity, The Terrance Higgins Trust.  Read her story and the great work the charity does here.

Its starting to look a lot like Christmas…

The end of November means Christmas is getting ever closer and decorations and lights start to appear.  We went to two of our local Christmas light switch ons.  Its a great way to kick off the Christmas season and start to feel festive.  I even had my first mince pie and mulled wine.  Its so nice to see the high street lit up with lights.

House Extension

The House extension has made a lot of visual progress this month.  The new windows have gone in and the house has been rendered.  The scaffolding has finally been taken down so we no longer have an obstacle course to get into our front door!  It so nice to see it looking more like a house.

Work has started on our bathroom with tiles being laid but this meant loosing half of our existing bathroom.  All fun and games as they say!

Going to be loosing our kitchen in December so making preparations for that.  This means a makeshift kitchen in the living room!  Thank goodness for microwaves and slow cookers.

Post it Note Mum Adventures – October 2017

As we say goodbye to October we are definitely getting into winter territory.  The summer clothes have been packed away and you realise the kids have no warm clothes that fit them anymore.  Having to put the heating on is becoming a regular occurrence and of course we say goodbye to British Summer time.  This is what we got up to in October.

October Adventures

Holiday to Dubai

Having a holiday in October isn’t something we normally do.  This year we were lucky enough to have a trip to Dubai.  It was an amazing holiday where lots of great memories were made.  We stayed at The Address Marina Hotel which had lovely views over the marina.  It was a busy 5 days as we had a lot that we wanted to see and do.

We experienced a Friday Brunch which is a popular activity in Dubai.  Enjoying huge amounts of delicious foods while listening to a live band.  The children also had a great time making friends in the kids area.  We definitely left a few pounds heavier that day!

At the other end of the scale we enjoyed a day in Old Dubai visiting the Souks and eating in more traditional restaurants.  We learnt about the history of Dubai at the Dubai Museum and had a ride across the creek in a traditional Abra boat.

There is just so much to see and do in Dubai and a lot of it is on a grand scale including the worlds tallest building and the worlds largest shopping mall.  Posts about our trip will be uploaded shortly.

Spooky Halloween days out

We had some fun days out over the October half term and because of Halloween they often had a spooky theme.  We visited Wat Tyler Country Park and joined in their Halloween activities, some of which ended up being a bit too scary for my two!  Zach and Amelia also enjoy the play area here and visiting the RSPB discovery centre.  They each got to make and bring home a bird feeder.

We had a great day out at Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park during their Wizards and Witches week.  The kids enjoyed joining in with all the spooky Halloween activities and they got to pick and take home a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.  To read what we got up to check out my post Our Spooky day out at Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park.

The kids final day of the half term was spent at The Fun Factory Rochford for some Ice skating, climbing and playing with friends.  Zach is a big fan of the CBBC show Ice Stars so was keen to try out skating, however I think he was more like Bambi on Ice 🙂  Kids had lots of fun though.

House Extension

We now have a roof on our side extension and the new bathroom and Zach’s new bedroom are taking shape.  We have been choosing bathroom suites and tiles this week.  So many decisions to make and so many options to choose from.  Excited to see our new windows being fitted next week (funny what excites you when you get older 🙂 )

Post it Note Mum Adventures – September 2017

Can’t believe September is already over.  This month meant getting back into the school routine and starting back at all the after school activities.  Also getting over the holiday blues!  All that being said we have had a busy fun September.  This is what we got up to.

September Adventures

London life

We don’t live too far from London and its only a 45 minute train journey however its always a nice treat to head up to London for a day out.  Its been one of those months where everything came at once and I was out in London a few times.

Gin and cake on a bus

First trip was with friends aboard a Routemaster bus for afternoon tea with B Bakery.  We enjoyed a bus tour around London while eating a selection of delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones.  We opted for the Gin Lovers Tour which included three tasty gin cocktails by Hayman’s Gin.  Everyone had a great time, would definitely recommend it!

Riding the wire

The next day I was back into London, this time for a girly day with my mum, sister, Amelia and a family friend.  My sister had bought me a ticket for Zip World London for my birthday.  It was the biggest, fastest, city zip wire in the world.  After climbing what felt like a huge amount of stairs it was a bit scary standing at the top waiting our turn to ride the wire.  It was great fun though!  We had a race to the other side, which I lost! 🙁 Unfortunately it has just ended for 2017 but definitely worth waiting to see if it returns or checking out their other locations.

We finished the day with dinner in Leicester Square at Cork & Bottle.  It had some good reviews on TripAdvisor and it didn’t disappoint.  The restaurant is quite quirky being located in a basement at the bottom of a set of spiral stairs.  We were seated in our own private cove which was once an old underground prison cell.  The menu was quite varied and the food was delicious.

Puttin’ on the Ritz

Next trip to London was for afternoon tea at The Ritz to celebrate my Nan’s 80th Birthday.  It was amazing sitting in this beautiful, traditional hotel being served tea in an ornate silver teapot.  We all had a lovely afternoon eating and drinking while listening to the piano.

For a completely different experience in London we finished the day with cocktails at the top of Sushi Samba.  The view while travelling up the glass lift is pretty amazing, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you are not keen on heights!  We enjoyed cocktails outside while keeping warm under a blanket and next to the fire.  It was great to share this with my Nan.

Brunch time

Final trip to London was to enjoy Saturday brunch at the South Place Chop House.  This bottomless brunch meant that our prosecco glasses were continuously being topped up!  The food was very tasty and I would definitely recommend the smoked salmon bagel and the chocolate covered waffles!

Days Out

The kids had some fun days out with friends visiting South Weald Country Park and Wat Tyler Country Park.  Both great spaces to run around, fly kites and play on the park equipment.  We also got to relive our youth by getting on some skates and visiting RollaCity!  Brought back memories of skating around when I was younger.  For more ideas on places to visit in Essex please check out my other post – 25 things to do in Essex with kids.

House Extension

Another months progress has been made.  Scaffolding now covers the house so its a bit of an obstacle course to get to the front door.  The old roof tiles are being replaced by new grey ones and insulation is being fitted to the house.  The roof trusses have been delivered and the roof on the extension is taking shape.

Post it Note Mum Adventures – August 2017

I always enjoy the summer holidays and they are always filled with lots of adventures.  We all had a fun and busy August with lots of activities, days out and a holiday to Spain.  We have also had lots of progress made on our house extension which is really good to see.  Here’s what we got up to in August.

August Adventures

Summer Holiday Activities

The kids like to keep busy during the summer holidays so when we were not on days out we were baking, painting, den building and going on bike rides.  I also took them through a car wash which they had been asking to do for a while and its something that I used to love as a child.  Even though it didn’t last long they both thought it was great, and we ended up with a clean car at the end of it! Everyone’s a winner 🙂

Amelia also lost her first tooth during the holidays and was very excited about having a visit from the tooth fairy!

  • Adventure Island, Southend-on-Sea, Essex
  • Landguard Fort, Felixstowe, Suffolk
  • Hollow Trees Farm, Ipswich, Suffolk
  • Orford Quay, Orford, Suffolk

Holiday to Spain

During the last two weeks in August we went to stay at my in laws holiday home in Spain.  They have a house in the small Spanish village of Orxeta which sits in land up in the mountains between Benidorm and Alicante.  We have been visiting Spain for many years now and the kids always enjoy their time there.  It was a lovely two weeks going swimming, to the beach, on days out and eating lots of Paella.

We tried two new places this year, Tabarca Island and Canelobre Caves.  For more information about these places click here.

House Extension

We started work extending our house in June this year.  Its been great watching the progress and so far we still have a fully working kitchen so it hasn’t effected everyday life just yet!  We were shocked to come back after our two weeks in Spain to find the second story taking shape.  Watch this space for more updates.
