When all the family get together at Christmas its great to have some family Christmas games to play. They normally have us all in fits of giggles. Its so nice to all sit down together and play games that all the family can get involved with. Christmas is already a busy time of year with lots to do and think about but these games are easy to prepare and play.
Paper plate drawing game
This is really easy to do but very funny and a game that everyone can join in. You will need:
- paper plates
- marker pens
This game requires everyone (except the games host) to place a paper plate on their head and draw exactly what they hear being described. The games host has to pick something to draw and describe each part to everyone as they try to draw it. We played this last Christmas and I got everyone to draw a snowman. For example:
- Draw a large circle for the body
- Add a smaller circle on top for the head
- Now draw a hat on top of the head
- Draw a carrot nose
- Add 2 eyes and a mouth
- Finally add 2 sticks for the arms
Now place all of the snowmen down to be admired. It is very funny seeing all the goofy looking snowmen and its hard to tell the kids snowmen from the adult ones. Really easy game but lots of fun. You can describe anything Christmassy to draw, for example a Christmas tree with baubles and a star on top.
Present and card game
My family loved playing this game so much last year that I had to do it again! In fact I have got two games ready, one for Christmas day and one for Boxing day. It requires a bit more preparation but it is easy to play and it is such a fun game. It really had the whole family involved (especially my Nan!). You will require:
- 2 sets of playing cards
- a number of small presents wrapped up (the number will depend on how many people are playing)
Shuffle and deal one pack of cards between all of the players. The games host shuffles and places the other pack of cards face down. They then turn over the first card and call it out to all players. The person with the corresponding card gets to choose a present from the pile (but they mustn’t open it!).
The games host continues to turn over and call out the rest of the cards. The players may take a present from the pile or when they run out (or before if the wish) they can take a present from another player. This is where it gets interesting as there always seems to be one present that everyone is after!
The game continues until all the cards have been turned over at which point the players may keep any presents they have managed to collect and they are theirs to open. Its great to find out what was inside the one that everyone was fighting over 🙂
All players must declare any presents they are holding throughout the game so other players have the chance to steal them. Its entirely up to you how many presents you choose to use. I normally wrap 6 to 8 presents for about 10 people playing. Its also great to wrap items of different shapes and sizes to make the game more interesting.
This is a game that you can play throughout the day. It had us all getting quite competitive and laughing a lot when we caught each other out. All you need is:
- 3 or 4 miniature pegs per person
Each person gets given an equal number of pegs which they attached to their clothes so they can be seen. A word is chosen that is not allowed to be said at all throughout the day until the game ends. If anyone hears the word being said they take a peg from that person. The aim of the game is to end up with the most amount of pegs at the end. Its entirely up to you what word is used but we used ‘Christmas’ which made the game more interesting. It sounds easy but its easy to forget and slip up and say the band word.
I love Christmas as its so nice to have all the family together having fun and eating and drinking far too much! Cant wait for lots of laughs and giggles again this year. I hope you have a great Christmas and as always thank you for reading my post.
Don’t forget to Pin for later …..
